"Youth violence isn't the real problem, but the things that lead up to it. We're working on
minimizing the number of children who will suffer the consequences of those failures."
Emphasizing the Positive
Research shows that youth who posses more personal development
assets are less likely to engage in risky behavior. The foundation of our plan is to promote the widest range of positive assets to help children become resilient, responsible adults. These assets include making sure that every child:
- has a strong connection to at least one caring adult in his or her life.
- is involved in an assortment of academic and community activities.
- develops strong personal feelings of competence and a positive identity.
Building Solutions on Community Strengths
Working side by side with youth, the Network joins communities in building a strong foundation and promoting:
- quality schools
- high community interest in youth
- local government investment in youth
- foundation of cooperative, collaborative services among agencies, religious groups, volunteer organizations, and others
